New England Patriots’ owner Robert Kraft is 100 percent innocent. Peaceful relations, including intimate relations, between consenting adults is a natural right. In fact, those relations are the keystone of civilization because the alternative is violent or coerced relations.
The only crimes that were committed were committed by the police who secretly video taped Mr. Kraft and many others getting undressed. In fact, many Americans have been arrested, prosecuted, and convicted for committing those crimes.
According to the principle of equal treatment under the law, government workers who commit those same acts should be prosecuted.
What about the fact that many people consider sex outside of marriage to be wrong or immoral? Should their opinions be respected? Yes. There are also many people who believe that some sex acts are wrong even for married couples. Should they be respected? Yes. Should those respectable people be allowed to criminalize those sex acts? No. They should not be allowed to use the law in order to punish peaceful human beings.
Why not? Let’s ask the central figure of Christianity. How did Jesus respond when a mob of law enforcers wanted to severely punish a peaceful human being who had violated a sex law? He confronted them and peacefully persuaded them that they were wrong.
He then spoke to the sex offender and told her, “Go, and sin no more.” He did not threaten her with violence if she chose to ignore his admonition. Unlike crimes that are committed against individuals such as theft and assault, some “sins” should not be punished because everyone is a sinner.
