LYNN — Firefighters rescued a man trapped on the top floor of a North Federal Street home as a two-alarm fire ripped through the building early Saturday morning.
Lynn fire crews had to use a ladder to pull the man out of the third floor of the two and a half story, two-family home through dense smoke. The man was able to climb down the ladder with assistance from firefighters and was taken to Salem Hospital as a precaution, Lynn Fire Capt. Joseph Zukas said.
The four other residents were outside upon firefighter arrival, and all five adults living in the home have been displaced. The building has been boarded up and damage is estimated at $100,000. The city’s Inspectional Services Department is assessing whether residents will be able to move back in, Zukas said.
Shortly before 2:30 a.m., Lynn Fire responded to 27 North Federal St. and found flames and heavy smoke showing from the building. The blaze started in the first floor hallway, but the cause has not been determined, Zukas said.
Property records show the home is owned by the Connell Family Trust. The building has a vinyl exterior with asphalt roofing and is assessed at $262,100. The entire property’s assessed value is $392,300.
