PEABODY — Police are asking the public’s help to find a man who attempted to abduct a 9-year-old boy near the William A. Welch Elementary School.
The victim told police he was walking with his scooter at the corner of Swampscott Avenue and Washington Street Tuesday night at 8:30 when a man approached him from behind, covered his mouth, and dragged him to the Welch School parking lot.
The boy was able to free himself and run home. He was not injured.
Peabody Police officers and a K-9 unit searched the area.
The suspect is described as dark-skinned, 5-feet-9-inches tall, wearing a red hooded sweatshirt and red hat.
The investigation is ongoing and police say they have added extra patrols in school areas around the city.
