The Lynn Tech baseball team clinched the Commonwealth Athletic Conference Small with a 6-5 win over Mystic Valley in nine innings. The Tigers also qualified for the Division 3 North state tournament.
Kenny Moore pitched six innings in his start and Jhoan Ortega pitched three innings of relief.
Chris Tejeda’s 2-RBI single, scoring Ortega and Dom Giordano, gave the Tigers the lead in the top of the ninth.
“I’m very proud of the team,” Tech coach Rich Germano said. “It’s the second year going back to the state tournament. It’s the first time we’ve won the CAC Small in years.”
Tech (9-8) hosts Greater Lowell Wednesday (7).
BASEBALL
Saugus 3, Triton 1
Saugus picked up its 13th win of the season behind another dominant outing from pitcher Todd Tringale, who tallied 11 strikeouts over seven innings. Tringale allowed four hits and one unearned run. Tringale’s 5-1 on the season with four saves and has 94 strikeouts.
Saugus scored all three runs in the bottom of the first inning. Jackson Stanton’s (2-for-2) RBI single plated Ronnie Paolo. Jack Devereaux (3-for-3) followed with a 2-RBI single.
Saugus (13-5) travels to Stoneham Sunday (11). The Sachems will celebrate their annual senior day Monday (noon) against Medford.
Danvers 7, English 4
English plated three quick runs in the bottom of the first but the bats went quiet the rest of the night. Jose Morel went 1-for-3 with two RBI to lead the offense. Andy Duverge and Erick Ubri each had one hit and scored a run.
Pitcher Nathaniel Espinal went three innings in his first start of the season.
English (11-5) takes on Classical Friday (7) in the opening round of the Nipper Clancy Tournament.
Beverly 12, Swampscott 10 (F/14)
The Panthers won the continuation of last Friday’s game on a 2-run home run. Swampscott drops to 9-8 with its third consecutive loss.
SOFTBALL
Saugus 13, Swampscott 1
Behind a huge performance from Caitlyn Wood, the Sachems earned a big conference win and qualified for the state tournament in the process.
“I couldn’t be happier for this group of kids,” said Saugus coach Steve Almquist. “To get 10 wins with the tough schedule we play just shows the kind of work they’ve been putting in all year. Now we’re playing for seeding.”
Wood tossed a complete game on the mound, allowing one run on four hits with six strikeouts. She also went 3-for-5 at the plate with a home run and five RBI to pace the offense.
Cat Schena went 1-for-2 with a home run and three RBI, while Leah Ventre went 1-for-2 with two RBI. Alexa Ferraro (3-for-4), Alessia Salzillo (2-for-5) and Sadie DiCenso (1-for-1) each added one RBI in the win, while Emma Howard went 3-for-4 with two runs scored.
Saugus (10-7) hosts Stoneham Friday for its senior day.
For Swampscott (2-14), Katie Watts went 2-for-3. Nicolette Fraser and Sydney Cresta each had a hit. The Big Blue take on St. Mary’s Saturday (3:30) in the Holland Tournament.
Chelsea 19, Tech 2
Ariella Long went 2-for-2 with two triples and one RBI in the loss. Georgina Toribio and Aleida Torres played well defensively.
Tech will play English Friday (4).
BOYS LACROSSE
St. John’s Prep 15, Marblehead 7
St. John’s honored 15 seniors on Senior Night, then the Eagles went out and earned their 15th win of the season.
Jake Surette led the way with four goals and three assists, while Michael Kelly had three goals and one assist. Brian Souza and Craig Yannone each had two goals, while Pat Keefe had one goal and one assist. Luke Brennan, Dan DeLaus and Sean Gilbert each had one goal, Michael Ott had two assists and Wes Rockett had one assist. Goalie Alex Kreher had six saves.
The Prep (15-3) closes out the regular season against Central Catholic Tuesday (6:30).
Medford 12, Saugus 4
At Stackpole Field, the Sachems bowed out of state tournament contention with the loss. Derek Martineau made 16 saves in a stellar effort in net. Mario Desimone led the offense with two goals. Dom Paolo and Ryan Pugh each scored one goal. Joe Cross dished two assists.
The Sachems travel to Northeast for their regular-season finale Friday.
Revere 16, Malden 6
The Patriots improved to 13-3 on the season.
GIRLS TENNIS
Marblehead 3, Lynnfield 2
Winners for Marblehead were Michelle Shub (6-0, 6-1 at first singles), Hannah Porath (7-6 (7-3), 2-6, 6-1 at second singles) and Jessie Munroe (1-6, 7-6 (7-2), 7-5 at third singles), who secured the match-clinching point.
Marblehead is now 15-0.
Lynnfield’s wins came from the doubles teams of Gillian Skelley/Emma Gallucci (6-4, 6-2 at first doubles) and Grace Sokop/Anna Radulski (6-1, 5-7, 6-2 at second doubles). Lynnfield is 13-2.
Swampscott 4, Danvers 1
Swampscott got singles wins from Allison Tribendis, Madeline Tribendis and Georgia Cilley as well a doubles win from the team of Maddie Schmidt and Sarah Kabel.
The Big Blue are now 12-2.
