SWAMPSCOTT — Paradise Road is closed until further notice due to a water main break.
The break occurred at the intersection of Paradise Road, along Route 1A, and Franklin Avenue on Wednesday. Numerous detours, starting at Paradise and Walker roads as well as Paradise Road at Norfolk Avenue/Farragut Road, will remain in place until the pipe is fixed. Franklin Avenue, headed toward Paradise Road, is also shut down.
Swampscott Sgt. Jay Locke said the town’s Police Department became aware of the break after several residents noticed water coming out of the area’s surrounding streets.
“Right now, it’s a pretty serious break,” said Locke. “Getting the equipment and pipes in place will take a little while. But getting the water to stop and finding a way to clear out the pipes needs to be attacked first in order to get the area safe.”
The town’s Department of Public Works was on the scene before 3 p.m. and officials are trying to determine whether the broken pipe is one from Swampscott or Marblehead.
