LYNN — A 24-year-old Maine man was arrested after police said they found an illegal handgun and ammunition in his car during a motor vehicle stop in the city Wednesday night.
Romelson Meresse, of Old Orchard Beach, Maine, was charged with possession of a firearm without a firearm identification card, leaving a firearm in a vehicle, carrying a firearm without a license, unlawful improper storage of a firearm, possession of a large capacity weapon/feeding firearm, unregistered motor vehicle, interfering with a police officer and resisting arrest.
Meresse was arrested after police found a 9mm handgun under the driver’s seat and ammunition located in the center console of his car. A firearm magazine police seized contained 17 rounds of ammunition, Lynn Police Lt. Michael Kmiec said.
Although Meresse wasn’t driving, he admitted that the car and gun were his. There were four other men in the car, but Meresse was the only person arrested, Kmiec said.
When officers tried to handcuff Meresse, he wasn’t compliant — he wouldn’t place his hands behind his back and tried to pull away from police, Kmiec said.
