Lynn native and endurance swimmer Kim Garbarino successfully swam the eight-mile distance between M Street beach in South Boston and Boston Light in Boston Harbor three times without a break last Friday to set a swimming record for one of the oldest open water competition swims.
With fellow swimmer Elaine Howley setting the pace, Garbarino started swimming before dawn and finished 14 hours and 22 minutes later.
“Elaine is a powerful swimmer and blew right through a rip current. I had to work harder and longer,” said the 61-year-old.
