Ocean State Job Lot will take over the shuttered Bob’s Store building on Route 1.
The vacant 40,000-square-foot commercial building was purchased by OSJ of Saugus LLC for $6.6 million in 2017. Matthew Blanchette, a spokesman for the company, confirmed Ocean State purchased the property.
Bob’s Store closed earlier this year.
Ocean State Job Lot is a discount retail chain with 139 stores in New England, New Jersey, and Pennsylvania. The Saugus store will relocate to the 1020 Broadway from the Lynn Fells Parkway location, which will close.
“As the company grows, it is always looking to improve its footprint to larger, more convenient spaces where appropriate,” said Blanchette. “As part of these relocations, the company works to create a better overall shopping experience with upgraded LED lighting, a larger footprint, which means more items, and more of each item.”
Most of the existing employees will transfer to the new store, but the company is interviewing to fill up to 20 new full-time and part-time jobs, including store leadership, department heads, sales associates, and stock associates.
“We are very excited to move into our new store in Saugus and are hoping to add some enthusiastic individuals to our team,” Paul Cox, director of store operations, said in a statement. “The community of Saugus has been great to us and we look forward to providing them with exceptional customer service and selection of great merchandise that they’ve come to know and love.”
