PEABODY — Police have ended the search for a 16-year-old Veterans Memorial High School student with a medical condition who went missing Saturday afternoon.

The teen, whose first name is Yorelus, was last seen in the downtown at 3:50 p.m. She contacted her mother Saturday night after seeing the alert on the Peabody Police Department’s Facebook page, according to Lt. Arthur Yeo.

“It was apparently a situation where the girl went out against her mother’s wishes,” he said. “She contacted the mom, but as far as we know she hasn’t made it home yet. We don’t think it’s anything more than a teen who wanted to go out with her friends and just decided to do it. We don’t think she is any danger.”

Following the post on social media, Donna Saxonis, a cosmetology teacher at Peabody High, expressed her concern.

“I keep checking back to this page every five minutes,” she wrote. “This young lady was one of my students.”

She is sweet, always polite, very talented and willing to help out in class, she said.

“She has a beautiful smile and a truly funny sense of humor,” Saxonis wrote. “Every day she left class, she always said ‘Thank You’ with a smile. I always looked forward to seeing her the next day.”
