LYNN — In honor of National Hispanic Heritage Month, the North Shore Latino Business Association will host a festive block party Tuesday night, in front of its 33 Sutton St. headquarters.
National Hispanic Heritage Month recognizes the contributions and importance of Hispanic and Latin Americans to the country’s history, heritage and culture. It is held annually from Sept. 15 to Oct. 15, and has been since 1978 when President Lyndon B. Johnson signed it into law.
Frances Martinez, president and founder of the North Shore Latino Business Association, said: “This is a wonderful way to unite cultures and community. It’s not only for Latinos. Everybody is invited to the party.”
The North Shore Latino Business Association has hosted Hispanic Heritage Month celebrations since 2011, the year Martinez started the group. Beyond Walls, Essex Media Group’s La Voz newspaper and Cojuelos Productions helped organize Tuesday’s event.
Martinez said food samples from many local restaurants representing some 21 Hispanic countries will be featured. Entertainment will be presented by a variety of cultural dance groups and musicians.
The celebration will be from 6-8 p.m.
