Ryan York, a 19-year Item veteran and Lynn native, is a first-rate designer.
York, a Danvers resident, is winning praise for another creative pursuit. His colored-pencil drawing of New England Patriots quarterback Tom Brady won a first-place blue ribbon at the Topsfield Fair last week.
York, who considers himself a pop culture portrait artist, has specialized in drawing female celebrities and such movie characters as Batman, The Flash, Michael Myers, Harley Quinn and Wonder Woman. He uses a photograph of his portrait subject as a guide.
His sports drawings are relatively new, though he has been commissioned on several occasions to create two action portraits of local high school athletes on the gridiron. York said he tries to squeeze in an hour of drawing each day. The award-winning Brady portrait took him 39 hours and 10 minutes to complete. It was his first entry to a competition.
