SALEM — A suspect was shot in the arm by police early Wednesday when a man driving a red sedan tried to run officers down, according to the Salem police.
Austin Boga, 25, of Peabody is expected to be arraigned today for assault and battery by means of a dangerous weapon, a motor vehicle, failure to stop for police, and a variety of motor vehicle violations.
A cruiser with two officers was sent to Shetland Park, a 29-acre office and industrial complex along Salem Harbor and Pickering Wharf Marina at 1 a.m. to investigate a report of suspicious activity.
Police said Boga drove towards them as they approached.
An officer fired his weapon and struck Boga who later crashed the vehicle on nearby Peabody Street. A third officer chased the vehicle to the Wendy’s Restaurant on Congress Street.
At that point, police said Boga fled on foot and jumped into the water where he was captured and placed under arrest.
He and two officers was treated for minor injuries. Salem police did not immediately release the names of the officers.
