LYNN — Police are investigating the death of a homeless man as a possible homicide. One man has been arrested for assault and police say they are looking at other suspects.
The body of an unresponsive man, identified as David Casey, was found by a Lynn Police officer on Liberty Street at around 8 a.m. last Friday, Lynn Police Lt. Michael Kmiec said.
Casey was taken to Salem Hospital, where he was pronounced dead, according to the Essex County District Attorney’s office.
State Police assigned to the DA’s office later responded to the “suspicious death” at the Lynn commuter rail station, where police believe the incident occurred.
Michael Tobin, 47, who is also homeless, was arrested on Monday and charged with assault and battery with a dangerous weapon (shod foot), which was related to him kicking Casey.
Tobin was arraigned in Lynn District Court on Tuesday and held without bail pending a dangerousness hearing. The DA’s office wouldn’t comment on whether there would be additional charges, other than a spokeswoman saying “it’s an active investigation.”
The death is under investigation by the DA’s office, along with State, Lynn and MBTA police.
