SALEM — Olivia Avery of Lynn has been cast in the Salem State University theatre department’s production of “Top Girls” in the role of Patient Griselda/Nell. Avery is a senior pursuing her Bachelor of Fine Arts degree with a concentration in performance. This is her seventh role at Salem State University and she also re-wrote and directed this summer’s production of Human Action Theatre.
“Top Girls,” Caryl Churchill’s groundbreaking feminist play, debuted in 1983 in Margaret Thatcher’s England. It explores the lives of socially and politically oppressed women on their quest for equality.
Performances are Dec. 5-8, at 7:30 p.m., with a Sunday matinee at 2 p.m. A conversation with the director and creative team will be held at 6:30 p.m. before tonight’s performance. All performances take place in the Sophia Gordon Center for Creative and Performing Arts, 356 Lafayette St.
