SAUGUS — All Guy Moley wants for Christmas is for people to join him and his Relay for Life team for their second-annual holiday fundraiser at Fuddruckers on Saturday.
After the success of last year’s event, Moley says bringing back the fundraising celebration for year two was a no-brainer. Although he’s been raising money with his team — “Mom’s Cancer-Fighting Angels” — since his mother died from esophageal cancer 11 years ago, the idea to host a Christmas-themed event only came to him after seeing how quickly his sister-in-law’s homemade tree ornaments sold out at their summer car show fundraisers.
“I thought ‘wow, we should put together an event around the holidays,'” he said. “I got together with my team and they thought it was a great idea.”
Moley then brought the idea to Fuddruckers in Saugus. The restaurant was happy to help out.
“We put it together and we were just blown away. We actually raised $2,000 last year, just from that one event,” he said.
He’s hoping his team will be able to surpass last year’s numbers.
“We’d love to see that for sure. Even if it’s one dollar over last year, that’s awesome,” he said.
This year’s festivities will include an ugly sweater contest, where attendees can compete to win a $25 Fuddruckers gift card, prize raffles, trivia, a story Santa at 6:30, and a caroling performance by the Lynn High School band at 7:30. Country 102.5 WKLB will also be there to present giveaways and play music.
The team is also asking event-goers to bring a new, unwrapped gift for the Saugus police and fire department’s toy drive.
Moley and his team, who were “blown away” by the positive response to last year’s event, said his reason for doing this is all about helping other families who are dealing with the turmoil that comes with a cancer diagnosis.
“We’d love to see a cure so nobody else has to lose their mom,” he said.
The event kicks off at 5 p.m. and continues until 8 p.m. Fuddruckers will donate 20 percent of all food sales to the American Cancer Society.
