LYNN — Initially, singer-songwriter Danny Donator was going to release his new digital single “Midnight” on December 12 at midnight. The 12-12-12 numerology aspect appealed to the Lynn musician, “but then I decided it would make more sense to release it when people are awake,” he said with a chuckle.
The 2017 Lynn Vocational Technical Institute graduate, who goes by the name Danny D, said the song will still debut on Thursday, available for streaming on Spotify, Apple Music and his Instagram page.
Donator said “Midnight” is a heartbreak type of song, with a focus on someone being with you more for your outward appearance than your inner beauty. It was written in collaboration with producer/mixer Fernando Sanchez of Revere, recording engineer at Salem-based La Serena Records. Daniel Freeman of Lynn is featured rapper on the track.
The 22-year-old said “Midnight” is the first song to be released from “Versatile,” an EP he hopes will be available this spring. Jared Hankel (photographer) and Derek Choun (videographer) also contributed to the project.
Donator said his father, a professional piano player, fostered his passion for music at a young age. “I saw him perform and I wanted to perform, too. My family has been very, very supportive.” Danny played piano every day, then guitar, and then a friend encouraged him to sing. Time spent at the Lynn YMCA’s music studio also played a role in his growth. Thanks to Alberto Vasallo, president and CEO of El Mundo Boston, Donator was able to sing the national anthem at Fenway Park before a Red Sox game. He has also auditioned for TV talent shows “The Voice” and “America’s Got Talent,” the program that ignited Lynn’s Amanda Mena’s singing career.
Danny, who received “Everyday Hero” recognition from Essex Media Group’s La Voz Latino newspaper, is a big promoter his city. “A lot of people are down on Lynn, but so many people in Lynn are doing great things. I’m proud of my city. A lot of positive things are happening here. I think I was born at just the right time. … that Lynn is (poised for greatness).”
“I hope that my music gives inspiration to anyone who’s looking for an outlet. Everyday I’m humbled by the fact that I am able to display my talent to anyone who’s interested in listening. This project is a perfect representation of how diverse I’ve become with music and throughout my life, which is why I named the EP project ‘Versatile.’
