Item Santa: Mom needs toys for first-born

Harold Rivera

December 20, 2019 by Harold Rivera

The holidays are supposed to be times of joy and smiles. They’re the moments we cherish with our families and loved ones each year.

One local mother hopes Christmas morning will bring her family joy through a tough period.

For this family, the past few months have been difficult ones. The mother’s low-income job has made it difficult to cope with paying bills, as she recently moved her family into a new home.

Within the next few weeks, the mother is expected to give birth to her second child. She needs help preparing for the baby because she was forced to take time away from her job and is currently on unpaid maternity leave.

While coping with her difficult circumstances, she hasn’t been able to provide much for her 4-year-old son. He’s hoping to see toys and books under the tree on Christmas morning.

“I give birth around Christmas,” she writes, “and I want my first-born to have a good Christmas.

“Whatever help I can get will be appreciated.”

Help make sure this family will have a joyful Christmas.

Now in its 53rd year, the Item Santa fund helps to make Christmas brighter for the needy. To donate, clip the coupon in The Item and mail it, along with your check, to The Item Salvation Army Santa, PO Box 5, Lynn, MA 01903.

There is also a way to donate online, and have your contributions acknowledged, just click on the following link: https://newitemlive.wpengine.com/itemsanta.

All donations are listed in Item print editions through the month of December and into 2020, along with a brief message from each donor, if desired.

NOTE: The application period for aid from Item Santa has closed and The Item does not process applicants. All questions about the program and distribution of gifts should be directed to Salvation Army at 781-598-0673.
