LYNN – A 25-year-old man has died after he was shot in the area of Howard Street early Saturday morning.

Police responded to a call for shots fired shortly after 5 a.m. and found Bryan Omar Mendez suffering from a gunshot wound on Lander Street, according to the Essex County District Attorney’s office.

Mendez, whose last known address was in Worcester, was taken to Salem Hospital, where he was later pronounced dead, the DA’s office said.

A neighbor told The Item the violence followed a party on the corner of Howard and Lander Streets.

The 38-year-old man, who asked to remain anonymous, said he woke up to three gunshots, which was followed by screaming and a lot of commotion. He looked outside to see two men running down the street.

The man called police and within minutes, four cruisers had arrived and the street was cordoned off. He said he was not surprised there was a shooting in Lynn, but there’s not often violence in his neighborhood.

“I’ve been living here for five years,” the neighbor said Sunday afternoon. “(It’s the) first time I’ve had that on my street. I don’t mind something around, but on my street, I don’t feel comfortable.”

No arrests have been made and the incident is under investigation.
