I would like to announce that I will be running for re-election for the Lynnfield Board of Selectmen. I ask for your support and your vote on April 14, 2020.
It has been an honor and privilege serving on the Board of Selectmen for the past seven years and I look forward to serving the residents of Lynnfield for another term. My wife and I have been residents for 33 years and were fortunate to have raised our four children here and have them attend our outstanding schools. Now our children have married and have chosen to live here and raise our grandchildren in this wonderful town.
I have been involved with dozens of volunteer activities over the years as well as having served five years on the Finance Committee. This, coupled with my 35 years of working in finance, have given me a unique perspective on how to deal with issues that arise and make decisions that are in the best interest of the Town of Lynnfield.
Over the past seven years there have been many changes in our town. The Town of Lynnfield came out of the recession in much better shape than most in the Commonwealth. Market Street created hundreds of jobs, numerous options for shopping and dining and a much welcome boost to our tax base and real estate values. The Fields project turned some of the worst recreational facilities in the North Shore to some of the finest which will benefit generations to come. LIFE built a new senior residential project, Colonial Village, which offers our residents more options to stay in town when it’s time to downsize. Our schools have been honored as some of the best in the State and continue to get better. Our Senior Center continues to excel and set the standard for all others to follow. We also have a robust Library that is now looking for a new home to expand and modernize.
We have many new faces in town government including a new town administrator, fire chief, DPW director, library director and town treasurer. All have been great additions and will help our Town flourish for many years to come.
We have saved the Centre Farm to keep the charm of our Town Center, sold the Perley Burrill property to be cleaned up and developed into residences, provided much needed funding to reconstruct town roads, rebuilt the children’s playground at Glen Meadow park, approved the renovation of both the fitness center at the High School and the Jordan Park fields, parking lot and playground. We created “A Healthy Lynnfield” to help bring education, awareness and resources to all residents.
The town has managed to accomplish a lot over the past seven years, all within the budget.
The future will present many important topics for us all to consider. The hiring of a new school superintendent, town clerk and town assessor. We will bring forward a final plan for a new clubhouse at the King Rail Golf Course. The proposal for a new library will also be presented to the town for approval when the partial funding is approved by the state. We will be looking at a new comprehensive plan from our Strategic Planning Committee regarding our town buildings.
The future will require good financial direction and understanding. The debt schedule should be considered and how the timing of any new debt will affect your taxes. Ultimately, it is up to you, the voters and the more information you have the easier it will be to decide.
Please allow me to continue to represent you on the Board of Selectmen. I humbly ask for your vote on April 14, 2020.
Thank you for your support,
Phil Crawford
Chairman, Lynnfield Board of Selectmen
