School Sports Roundup: St. John’s Prep wrestling continues dominance

The St. John’s wrestling team overpowered Catholic Memorial in a 71-0 win Wednesday night. The win earned the Eagles their 22nd-straight Catholic Conference title and marks 92-straight Catholic Conference wins. 

The win moved St. John’s to 28-0-1 on the year (4-0 in Conference meets).

Winners for the Eagles included 106 Alex Schaeublin at 106 pounds (forfeit), 113 Adam Schaeublin at 113 pounds, Nick Curley at 120 pounds, Alec Runnals at 126 pounds, Quinn Alexander at 132 pounds, Rawson Iwanicki at 138 pounds, Jordan Young at 145 pounds, Beau Colvin at 152 pounds (first varsity match), Achiles Gikas at 160 pounds, Marty Roach at 170 pounds, Garrett Dunn at 182 pounds, Jack Sullivan at 220 pounds and Jack Blizard at 285 pounds.

Girls Basketball

Shawsheen 50, Tech 27

Despite the loss, Alondra Sanchez had another big night for the Tigers with 16 points. Niyo Mwajuma added 10 points.

Tech (7-8) travels to Fellowship Friday.

Boys Track

Danvers 45, Beverly 41

Danvers 73, Classical 13

Beverly 75, Classical 11

Danvers had first place finished by JP Kelter (300 meter, 39.1), Will Sheehan (600 meter, 1:34.5) and Kevin Rogers (two mile, 11:13.2). Danvers (3:46.7) came out on top in the 4×440 relay to edge out Beverly (3:47.6).

Danvers improves to 9-1 on the season.

Classical’s Oladeji Jolaoso (6.9) finished third in the 50 meters. Fraynel Del Rosario Amparo (5’6) finished second in the high jump.

Classical drops to 2-8 on the year.

Girls Track

Beverly 67, Danvers 19

Beverly 71, Classical 15

Danvers 43, Classical 43

Cherish Nwoko (30′ 2 1/2) was Classicals lone first place winner in the shot put. Slanny Portorreal (46.4) placed second in the 300 meter while Miriam Bamaca (13:16.6) placed second in the two mile. Noelia Rosado (10.1) finished third in the 50 meter hurdles while Chloe Keabreau (7.8) finished third in the 50 meter. Rachel Brenna (5:32.5) placed third in the one mile.

The Rams move to 4-5-1 on the year.
