The Classical boys basketball team punched its ticket to the state tournament Wednesday night, knocking off Malden by a score of 65-62.
The Rams were led by Brandon Summers and Tony Palavra, both of whom scored 15 points to pace the offense.
Classical (11-8) travels to Danvers Thursday night (7).
BOYS BASKETBALL
English 84, Beverly 56
Jarnel Guzman scored 18 of his 31 points in the third quarter to help lift the Bulldogs to a big win. Mukeba Jean-Baptiste added 19 points in the win, while Kanye Wavezwa scored 14 points.
English (17-2) hosts Cambridge Rindge & Latin Sunday evening (5:30).
GIRLS BASKETBALL
Saugus 54, Medford 43
The Sachems earned a big win on Senior Night and had a number of seniors contribute to the victory. Molly Granara led the way with 10 points, while Jillian Ricupero and Kiley Ronan each scored nine points. Taylor Bogdanski scored eight points, Shaylin Groark scored seven points and Jessica Nazzaro scored six points.
Saugus (14-4) has a quick turnaround with a home game against Peabody Thursday night (7).
English 39, Beverly 33
Jessica Ruiz led the Bulldogs, who clinched the NEC title, notching a double-double with 12 points and 10 rebounds. Julianna Perry added seven points and five assists. English (14-4) takes on Andover at Woburn High Tuesday (5).
Essex Tech 47, Tech 17
Alondra Sanchez scored 14 points in the loss for the Tigers, while Nyari Lane-Benjamin led the way on defense.
Tech (9-10) closes out the regular season Saturday (10) at home against PMA.
BOYS HOCKEY
Fenwick 5, Shrewsbury 3
Despite trailing 3-2 late, the Crusaders scored three unanswered goals to earn the win. Nick Muzi and Diego Alvarez-Segee scored goals in the win, while Tom Estrella and Ian Worthley each had one assist.
Fenwick (8-7-2) takes on St. Mary’s Saturday (6).
Lynnfield 4, North Reading 1
Sam Pifko had a hat trick for the Pioneers in the win, while Ronnie Fucillo scored one goal.
Lynnfield (11-6-2) closes out the regular season next Wednesday (6) on the road at Gloucester.
Marblehead 6, Saugus 1
In a big offensive game for the Magicians, Collin Hart had the biggest performance. Hart notched three goals and added one assist, while Will Shull contributed one goal and one assist. Gavin Dowley and Eli Feingold each scored one goal, while Loch Sheridan, Zach Piersol, Conner Jalbert and Carter Laramie each had one assist.
Marblehead (12-3-3), who clinched the NEC North with the win, will take on Swampscott Saturday afternoon (1).
Danvers 7, Swampscott 4
Drew Olivieri scored two goals in the loss for the Big Blue, while Conor Donovan had one goal and two assists. Chris Henriques added one goal and Thomas Callahan had one assist.
Swampscott (9-10-0) closes out the regular season Saturday (1) against Marblehead.
Winthrop 4, Peabody 1
Winthrop (8-7-3) hosts Danvers Saturday (10:30), while Peabody (5-11-1) takes on Nashoba Friday evening (5:15).

St. Mary’s 9, Archbishop Williams 1
St. Mary’s saw eight different players score in the win, led by Jenna Chaplain’s two goals.
The Spartans (14-0-3) host Austin Prep Saturday afternoon (4).
GIRLS TRACK
Division 1 state meet
English sent one runner to the Division 1 meet at Reggie Lewis Center, and she didn’t disappoint. Kendra Malcolm ran the 50-yard dash in a time of 7.51 seconds, good enough for third place overall. The time also qualifies her for the All-State Meet next Saturday back at Reggie Lewis Center.
