The St. Mary’s boys hockey team punched its ticket to the championship game of the Cardinal Hockey Classic Wednesday night with a 3-2 win over Malden Catholic at Olympia Ice Center in West Springfield. The Spartans scored three goals in the first period and never looked back.
Brady Bullock, Brady Carpenter and Christian Moran each scored one goal for St. Mary’s in the victory.
St. Mary’s (12-6-2) will take on Pope Francis in the Cardinal Hockey Classic championship game Thursday night (8) back at Olympia Ice Center.
BOYS HOCKEY
St. John’s Prep 9, Needham 1
The Eagles got goals from Matt Taylor, Ryan Hart, Zach McKennelly, Nick Townshend and Ned Malolepszy in the win, while Cam Russo and Jake Caruso each had one assist.
St. John’s Prep closes the season at 11-4-5 and awaits its seeding in the upcoming state tournament.
Winthrop 5, Saugus 1
The Vikings were able to lock up a berth in the state tournament on the final game of the season with a Northeastern Conference victory.
Winthrop (9-8-3) now awaits its seeding in the upcoming state tournament.
Saugus closes out the season at 2-17-1.
Bishop Fenwick 1, Triton 1
The lone goal for the Crusaders was scored by Nick Muzi, while Ian Worthley had one assist.
Fenwick (10-7-3) closes out the regular season Thursday (5) with a road game against Lowell Catholic at Chelmsford Forum.
Gloucester 4, Lynnfield 3
Lynnfield got goals from Nate Alves, Danny Mack and John Simonetti in the loss.
The Pioneers (11-7-2) await their seeding in the upcoming state tournament.

Championship Game
Marblehead 1, Auburn 1
While the game will go down in the record books as a tie for both teams, it was the Magicians who pulled a couple of late tricks out of their hat to earn an overtime victory in the tournament title game.
Marblehead trailed 1-0 for the entire game until Molly O’Handley scored with 59 seconds to play to force the game into overtime. From there, it was a goal from Hadley Wales on an assist from Abby Kalinowski that earned the Magicians the win.
Marblehead closes out the season at 7-11-2.
BOYS BASKETBALL
Saugus 51, Medford 47
The Sachems played their final boys basketball game in the old Saugus High School gym Wednesday night and closed it out in style.
Christian Correia had 23 points to lead the way, while Myles Manalaysay scored 19 points.
Saugus (9-11) earned a tournament berth via the Sullivan Rule and now awaits its seeding.
Manchester-Essex 53, Fenwick 45
Jason Romans led the Crusaders with 11 points in the loss.
Fenwick (10-9) will now prepare for the state tournament.
