Tufts University junior Liz Reed has been named an All-American in women’s soccer for the 2019 season.
The United Soccer Coaches announced the three Division III All-America teams on Thursday. Reed, a Lynnfield native, achieved All-American status for the first time, getting named to the Third Team.
Reed, a former Lynnfield High star in both soccer and track, led Tufts in scoring with 10 goals and nine assists for 19 points. It was the fifth-best single-season scoring total in Tufts history and the most points in a season by any player since 2007. The nine assists tied for the second-most in a season in team history.
Reed had an incredible start to the season, scoring six goals with four assists in her first six games. She tallied an NESCAC game-winner at Amherst and assisted on two goals against Cortland in the NCAA Tournament.
Reed fired 77 shots on the season — which ranked second in the NESCAC — and recorded a point in 12 different games. She earned All-NESCAC First Team honors for the second time in her career and was named to the United Soccer Coaches First Team All-New England Region Team.
Head coach Martha Whiting’s Jumbos finished 14-4-2 this year, the most wins by the program since 2005. Tufts earned the No. 1 seed in the New England Small College Athletic Conference (NESCAC) last fall and advanced to the “Sweet 16” of the NCAA Tournament.
Earlier in the fall, Reed was selected first team by both United Soccer Coaches All-New England and by NESCAC.
In her time at Lynnfield High, Reed was a four-year varsity starter for the soccer team, was an Eastern Mass. All-Star and was a three-time Cape Ann League First Team All-Star.
