Connecticut College sophomore swimmer and Peabody native Neal Mahoney has been named to the New England Small College Athletic Conference (NESCAC) Winter 2020 All-Academic Team.
To be honored, an individual must have reached sophomore academic standing, and be in good standing in their sport with a cumulative grade point average of at least 3.50 or equivalent on a 4.0 scale.
Mahoney — a St. John’s Prep graduate from 2018 — is part of the Connecticut College Class of 2022, majoring in economics. He was one of 66 Connecticut College student-athletes to receive the honor.
Mahoney’s most recent performance in the pool came at the NESCAC Championships, where he was a part of the 400-meter freestyle relay team. The relay team finished in eighth-place, clocking in with a time of 3:05.79. Mahoney’s teammates on the relay squad were junior Charlie Adl, freshman Mitchell Lockwood and freshman Marc Stern. Mahoney also teamed up with Adl, Lockwood and Julien Legros to finish in seventh place in the 200 freestyle relay with a time of 1:23.57.
Connecticut College finished in sixth place as a team at the NESCAC Championships with 727.5 points.
