LYNN — As preparations for another Futures Collegiate Baseball League season continue, the North Shore Navigators welcomed two New England native catchers to their 2020 roster on Monday.
Swampscott High School and future Franklin Pierce backstop Dylan January and Eckerd College’s Sam Boudreau will join the local club this summer. President and General Manager Derek January made the announcement.
Dylan January earned Northeastern Conference and Salem News All-Star honors following his junior season at Swampscott. The 5-foot-11, 195-pound backstop hit .325 with 26 RBI, 22 runs scored and an area-leading seven home runs last spring including one in a state tournament victory over Austin Prep. The two-sport captain’s three-year varsity career has included 13 round-trippers. January was also a running back and linebacker on the Big Blue’s Division 5 Super Bowl-winning football team back in the fall, recording more than 1,200 rushing yards and 11 touchdowns.
Scouting Report: Excellent defensive catcher … good game manager … shows good power … MLB comp: Joe Girardi.
Though he goes to school in St. Petersburg, Fla., Boudreau will only have to make a short trip to Fraser Field as he hails from Hooksett, N.H. The 6-foot-3, 210-pounder joined the Tritons as a freshman after being named to the Baseball Coaches Association of New Hampshire’s 2019 All-State First Team following his second season at Bishop Guertin High School. He played in five games for the FCBL’s Nashua Silver Knights last summer after completing his career with the Cardinals. Boudreau was an All-State Third Team honoree as a junior.
Scouting Report: Big, athletic catcher … good arm and can swing it … great competitor … MLB comp: Jarrod Saltalamacchia.
