North Shore first responders, including police from Lynn, Marblehead and Peabody, showed their support for healthcare professionals by taking part in a “rolling respect tour” that extended to three hospitals on Tuesday afternoon.
After meeting at Peabody’s North Shore Shopping Center, a convoy of area police cruisers, fire engines, ambulances and tow trucks began their ride together to celebrate workers at the selected hospitals.
However, the ride had a more far-reaching purpose — it was billed as a “rolling respect tour” for all of the men and women working in the healthcare industry, according to the Marblehead Police Department.
“Starting with Lahey Hospital in Peabody, then moving up Rte 128 N to Beverly Hospital and concluding with Salem Hospital, we may have tied up a bit of traffic,” Marblehead Police wrote in a Facebook post. “However, judging by the number of thumbs up, clapping and waving, it didn’t appear that too many people minded the slight delays.
“With lights flashing, sirens and air horns wailing, we passed by the emergency rooms of all three hospitals, apparently much to the delight of the staff who were able to take a few minutes to come out for some fresh air and a respite from their work. To all of you — from all of us — thank you for being there and doing what you do,” Marblehead Police wrote.
According to the Peabody Police Department, the event was organized by Peabody Sgt. James Harkins, who worked with area police and fire departments, tow companies and hospitals to show appreciation for “all that medical professionals do to keep us and our communities healthy.”
“We understand the sacrifices the healthcare workers are making (with) being exposed to so many people who have it,” added Lynn Police Lt. Michael Kmiec. “We certainly understand and we’re grateful they’re out there working day to day.”
