NAHANT — A multi-department police pursuit led to the arrest of an alleged armed robbery suspect early Thursday morning.
Shortly before 2:30 a.m., Nahant Police became aware of a stolen car that Lynn Police had reported observing in the area of Lynn Shore Drive, which was reportedly heading toward the Nahant Rotary, Nahant Police said.
The black Cadillac was reportedly being driven by an armed robbery suspect out of Boston. Within minutes of that report, Nahant Police Sgt. Stephen Shultz saw the car on Nahant Street, and began to follow it as the driver started to head into Nahant, police said.
Shultz tried to stop the car, but the driver refused to pull over. Instead the driver tried to speed up to get out of Nahant, police said.
When the car reached the Nahant Rotary, cruisers from Lynn and State Police were waiting, boxing the driver in and causing the suspect to turn around and head back into Nahant. Police found the car abandoned in Little Nahant and immediately began a foot pursuit, after witnesses reported seeing the suspect in the area, police said.
A State Police K9 was deployed to assist with the search and tracked the suspect’s hiding place. The suspect was arrested by Nahant Police, with assistance from Lynn and State Police.
Police declined to name the suspect or release any other identifying information, citing a pending investigation, but said the suspect was charged with receiving stolen property, operating to endanger, speeding, and failure to stop for police.
