For 33 years, I gave my body and my best years to GE under the agreement that upon retirement, I would be taken care of.
Retirees made GE’s success possible. Our labor generated record profits for the company and made GE the household name that it is today. From household appliances to jet engines, we built the things our country used to prosper. Our hard work made GE what it is today, and now they have turned their backs on us.
I have spoken at every GE shareholders meeting since 1994, advocating for the pension and health care benefits our retirees deserve. This year the meeting is online. And I and the other retirees are not able to speak. Here are a few of our stories we would have told the shareholders.
Mike Gangi had 36 and a half years’ service with a pension of $1,273 a month before taxes. For the last three years, he paid $15,000 a year in medical bills to replace the teeth he lost to cancer. GE retirees used to have medical plans to supplement Medicare. No more.
GE has the opportunity to do what is right for workers, for retirees, and for our country.
