Lynn reported 18 new cases of COVID-19 on Friday, bringing the city’s total caseload, including those who have died and those who have recovered, to 2,944.
Nearby communities have also seen a small increase in numbers.
Lynnfield has diagnosed one more case, bringing the town’s total caseload to 90, and Revere has diagnosed two more cases, bringing the city’s caseload to 1,437. Both communities have not reported additional deaths.
As of Friday, Saugus has reported 436 confirmed cases and two more deaths, bringing the town’s death toll to 26.
A statement from the Saugus Health Department said that town officials believe that additional undiagnosed cases exist in Saugus.
“Due to the fact they are undetected, some of these infected individuals may not be properly isolated or quarantined,” the statement read. “Which is why the (town) strongly requests that everyone stay home unless it is essential, wear a cloth face cover over their face when around others, practice social distancing, avoid gatherings, and follow the CDC and MDPH guidance.”
Lynn’s death toll is reported to have reached 80, up one from Thursday. To date, 715 people in Lynn have recovered from the virus.
Other communities, such as Nahant with 37 cases, have remained stable. Peabody has yet to release its most updated numbers.
Starting Friday, Lynn officials announced that the Lynn Community Health Center has updated its COVID-19 testing criteria to include those who are asymptomatic and have been exposed to someone with COVID-19 symptoms, which include: fever or chills, cough or shortness of breath, muscle aches, headache, sore throat, or new loss of smell or taste.
