Students’ dreams trashed by COVID-19: The coronavirus as seen through young eyes

By Gina Terrazzano

My name is Gina Terrazzano, and I’m a sophomore at Peabody High. The shutdown has affected me in many ways mentally and physically. The number one thing that got me down is that our softball season got taken away. It’s heartbreaking to me because this is the season I wait for and train for all year long. I’ve been training alone in my yard hitting, family members playing catch with me and running.

Online learning has been a process to get used to. I would much rather be in school with everyone. I miss seeing all my friends and my teachers on a daily basis. Especially the seniors, my heart breaks for them. Our coach and softball team are trying to plan things we can do to make the senior softball players feel special because their last season got taken away.

Hopefully everything goes back to normal soon. A lot of us would like to play sports in the summer. I’m just glad all of my family and friends stayed healthy through all this.

Gina Terrazzano is a sophomore at Peabody High School.
