SAUGUS — Veterans Memorial Park in Saugus has received some upgrades in addition to its usual spring cleaning.
To honor the town’s brave men and women who have served on the front lines, the park, located on the corner of Winter Street and Central Street, received improvements that include newly refurbished war memorial panels; safer granite curbing and concrete walkways; new sidewalks around Central and Winter Streets; new topsoil and grass planting; solar lighting repairs; new cameras installed for security; tree trimmings; tree stump removals; an upgrade of the sprinkler system; and the removal of graffiti.
“As a member of the Saugus War Monument Committee and an advocate of these improvements at the Veterans Memorial Park, I want to thank those involved in making this happen,” said Board of Selectmen vice chair Corinne Riley. “In addition, on this Memorial Day I want us to take this time to remember and honor those who gave the ultimate sacrifice.”
Staff from Saugus Building Maintenance, the Department of Public Works, and others implemented the upgrades.
In a statement provided by the town, manager Scott Crabtree thanked the municipal workers involved.
“I want to thank the Town workers for the dedication and hard work in improving, maintaining, and honoring our heroes, the men and women and their families with these upgrades at the Veterans Memorial Park,” he said. “I am proud that we as a community always honor, prioritize, and support our military families and community.”
