LYNN — Local workforce training agency Pathways Adult Education and Training Inc. has received a $100,000 grant to provide health care technology training that can lead to promotions and pay increases in the medical field.
Cummings Foundation picked Lynn-based Pathways for its more than 40-year training track record and focus on adult basic education, English language learning and workforce training.
“Their ability to adapt and work with their constituents in new and meaningful ways has an enormous impact in the communities where our colleagues and leasing clients live and work,” said Joel Swets, Cummings Foundation’s executive director.
Pathways is one of 130 local nonprofits to receive grants of $100,000 to $500,000 each through Cummings Foundation’s $20 Million Grant Program.
The Cummings $20 Million Grant Program resulted from a merger of the Foundation’s two flagship grant programs, $100K for 100 and Sustaining Grants. The Foundation will officially award the grant money during a virtual online award ceremony later this month.
“We have been impressed, but not surprised, by the myriad ways in which these 130 grant winners are serving their communities, despite the challenges presented by COVID-19,” said Swets.
More than 400 people attend Pathways programs annually and Executive Director Edward Tirrell said the Cummings money will help Pathways continue to provide health technology training leading to professional certification for students and opening medical field job opportunities.
“We firmly believe in the potential of our students and work hard to provide high quality, relevant education, working with our students to achieve these goals as efficiently as possible. Recognition of our work by Cummings Foundation is so encouraging as we redouble our efforts to serve those in our communities who need education and training most, even in this midst of a pandemic,” said Tirrell.
By offering English Language classes, adult basic education and occupational and vocational training, Pathways helps students identify educational and employment goals and then work toward completing them.
Founded in 1986 by Bill and Joyce Cummings, the Foundation is affiliated with Cummings Properties, the Woburn-based commercial real estate firm founded in 1970 by Bill Cummings. The firm leases and manages 10 million square feet of debt-free space, the majority of which exclusively benefits the Foundation.
Cummings Foundation has awarded a total of more than $280 million to greater Boston nonprofits.
Other Lynn organizations helped by Cummings Foundation include Boys and Girls Club of Lynn, Raw Art Works and North Shore Coalition for the Homeless.
