SWAMPSCOTT — When student-athletes are looking for a college to attend to continue their studies and athletic pursuits, it can be difficult to find a school that offers all the bells and whistles one is hoping for in a school. But not for Swampscott junior lacrosse player Elizabeth Green, who knew exactly what she was looking for and found the perfect fit at Ithaca College, where she has committed to continue her athletic career. Green toured a number of schools while making her decision, including Roger Williams University, Roanoke College and Wentworth. But it was at Ithaca where Green found the perfect combination.
“I had a list of the things that I wanted in a college, and Ithaca really checked every single box,” said Green. “It’s a perfect fit for me. It’s a Division III school but it’s still big enough for what I’m looking for. I really liked the feel of Ithaca, and they have a great team. So it really was a full checklist that they covered.”
Green was hoping that her decision would come in the midst of her junior season at Swampscott, but with the COVID-19 pandemic shutting down the season completely, she’s stuck wondering what would’ve been with her Big Blue teammates.
“We were going to have a really good team this year, so it’s a shame that we couldn’t get out on the field and play,” said Green. “We have such a great group of girls and we were really thinking we were going to make a run. I think we really could’ve done deep in the tournament this year.”
Green is part of a group of four Swampscott girls lacrosse players who have made their commitments to play college lacrosse in the future, joining teammates Emerson Laundry (UMass Lowell), Harper Clopton (University of Cincinnati) and Reese Robertson (Kent State University).
“They all deserve it, they’re such great players and they work so hard,” said Green. “We’ve been playing together for so long now, so it’s great to see everyone continue to grow, making their commitments and reaching their goals.”
But even though there’s no season for Swampscott this spring, Green is continuing to work on her game and prepare for her senior season next year. She currently plays club lacrosse for Revolution Lacrosse, which is coincidentally coached by Swampscott girls lacrosse coach Al Eaton.
“Rev has been keeping us busy so far, sending us workouts and drills to continue to stay fit and on form,” Green said. “I also get out on the wall a couple times a week and work on my stick skills, so I’m trying to stay as sharp as I can.”
