MARBLEHEAD — The shady area of Devereux Beach is currently without picnic tables, and it will stay that way for the time being.
There were more than a half dozen tables at the beach, which were removed due to the COVID-19 pandemic, with the town hoping the removal would encourage social distancing. According to Jamie Bloch, recreation supervisor, there are no plans to replace the tables, and doing so would take extra work — because the tables would have to be sanitized regularly.
Bloch said the town is monitoring state guidelines on reopening following the current COVID-19 pandemic, and may make future plans based on those guidelines.
“We’re taking it day by day and seeing what we can do each day to stay compliant,” she said.
