SAUGUS — Godfred Mbengam has been appointed Saugus’ new facilities engineer, Town Manager Scott Crabtree announced this week.

Mbengam, who recently began his new role, will oversee and operate all technological systems at the town’s new middle-high school. He will also oversee the planning, organizing, directing, and control of all aspects of municipal and school facilities, and will lead the Building Maintenance and Custodial Departments for Saugus.

“I am pleased to welcome Godfred to the role of facilities engineer for the town of Saugus,” Crabtree said. “He is highly qualified and will be instrumental in ensuring the brand-new hi-tech complexed mechanical systems at the new middle-high school operate efficiently and effectively in order to provide a comfortable environment for optimal learning and success.”

Mbengam most recently worked as the facilities engineer for Saint-Gobain Research North America, and before that served as the stationary engineer at Cogentrix Energy Power.

He has worked as an engineer for Sheraton Hotel, as an assistant project manager for Exelon Corporation, and managed facilities with the Massachusetts Trial Court and Massachusetts Maritime Academy.

A graduate of the Massachusetts Maritime Academy, Mbengam holds a bachelor of science degree in engineering and spent one term at sea on the T.S. Kennedy, during which he conducted facilities maintenance on the ship.

He is a certified HVAC technician and holds additional certifications from the United States Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) – Clean Air Act Section 608, and the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA)-10 General Industry Safety and Health.

Those with questions are asked to contact the Town Manager’s office at (781) 231-4111 for more information.
