LYNN — Some residents may have noticed the large police presence near the Lynn Community Health Center on Buffum Street Monday morning.
While some have speculated that the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) officials were carrying out an investigation for the department’s U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement division, Lynn Police Lt. Michael Kmiec said that was not the case.
“It had nothing to do with the health center and they were here for an investigation,” said Kmiec. “(It was) nothing ICE-related.”
Kmiec said no warrants were served and no arrests were made in Lynn as part of the investigation on Monday. He said Lynn Police assisted DHS, but declined to say what the investigation was for, including whether it was related to immigration matters.
Dr. Kiame Mahaniah, Lynn Community Health Center CEO, said there was a big Homeland Security gathering behind the health center on Buffum Street Monday morning.
“(They have) no interest in our patients or the health center, but everyone is a little edgy,” said Mahaniah.
