SAUGUS — Jon Hume has been hired as Saugus’ Assistant Director of the Department of Public Works in the latest in a string of new appointments for the town, Town Manager Scott Crabtree announced Thursday.
Hume, a professional engineer who began his role last month, will work with DPW Director Brendan O’Regan and the town’s part-time engineering consultant, Jim Sotiros, as part of his new duties.
As Assistant DPW Director, Hume will help oversee the department’s daily operations, and assist with short- and long-term planning, budgeting, and development of multiple divisions and their associated municipal infrastructure.
“I am pleased to welcome Jon to the role of Assistant DPW Director for the town of Saugus,” Crabtree said in a statement. “Jon possesses an excellent skill set for this important position. His extensive experience and knowledge of engineering, municipalities, and public works will make him an asset to the community.”
Crabtree states Hume has more than 22 years of experience in Massachusetts working on street, traffic, water, sewer, and construction engineering projects.
He most recently worked as the Senior Project Manager for engineering and construction management firm Kleinfelder, and previously served as the Senior Project Manager at engineering consultant company Wright-Pierce.
He has also worked as a Project Manager and Principal Engineer for the civil engineering firm, Maguire Group, Inc.
Hume holds a masters of science degree in civil/environmental engineering from Northeastern University, and a bachelor of science degree in the same field from the University of Maine, Orono.
In addition, Hume is a Water Environment Federation (WEF), New England Water Environment Association (NEWEA) Plant Operations Committee member.
“This team of four highly qualified engineers in the PDW and Engineering Departments will provide tremendous technical assistance for the town,” Crabtree said. “I look forward to their collaboration and working together to improve long-term planning and protection for the residents, community, and taxpayers of Saugus.”
