The No.8 Peabody Champions were on the brink of elimination Wednesday night, but Jon Cahill would not let his team go down without a fight. Trailing 2-1 in the bottom of the sixth inning, Cahill roped a 2-run double to put the Champions ahead and secure a 3-2 win over the No. 3 Kingston Night Owls in Game 4 of the North Shore Baseball League finals at Cooney Field in Beverly. Peabody’s win ties the best-of-five series at 2-2, setting up a deciding Game 5 for Thursday night.
Derek Lyons (1-for-3, RBI) also contributed offensively for Peabody, while Dave Ruggerio (2-for-2), Mike Gallo (2-for-3) and Keith Cooper (1-for-2) added hits in the win.
Colin Nye earned the win on the mound for the Champions after tossing 2 1/3 innings of relief, allowing no runs on just two hits with one strikeout. Tyler Fitzgerald came in to earn the save, pitching 2/3 innings and striking out the final batter for the victory. Brian Marshall got the start for Peabody, allowing two runs on four hits with three strikeouts in four innings of work.
Jeff Williams took the loss on the bump for the Night Owls despite a solid performance. Williams pitched six innings, allowing three runs on seven hits with four strikeouts.
Nick Comei led the way offensively for Kingston, going 2-for-3 with one RBI. Sean Callahan (1-for-2), Evan Penney (1-for-1) and Brett Blackwell (1-for-3) also had hits in the loss.
It now all comes down to a do-or-die Game 5 on Thursday night at Trinity Stadium in Haverhill, which began at 8 p.m.
