LYNN — The hydrangeas have arrived and are ready for planting.
Non-profit organization Lynn Main Streets is seeking volunteers to help plant hydrangeas, which have been purchased using donations from several local businesses, outside City Hall this Saturday, Sept. 5.
Organized in partnership with City Counselor Richard Colucci, the project is the latest in a number of recent initiatives to beautify Lynn’s downtown area.
“This is a way to thank everybody, to get us together and kind of celebrate everything we’ve done to bring some beauty to downtown,” said Tia Cole, the organization’s Director of Community Engagement.
After they arrive, volunteers will be split into smaller groups where they’ll have the opportunity to work with experienced gardeners who will guide any less experienced volunteers through the planting process.
Adding to the fun, Cole said Lynn Fire Chief Stephen Archer has even agreed to lend a fire truck for the morning to help water the newly-planted shrubs.
“With all the mutual aid organizing (lately), I’ve just really seen the community come together to support one another,” Cole said.
Planting begins at 7 a.m. Shovels will be provided, although volunteers are free to bring their own supplies. Face masks are required, and appropriate social distancing guidelines will be observed. Volunteers are asked to bring their own water or snacks if needed.
