PEABODY – An otherwise quiet morning was interrupted Saturday when a delivery truck crashed through the front window of Zucker’s Bakery in Peabody.
On-scene Patrolman David Murphy reported the truck’s driver was attempting to park to make a delivery at the Lake Street shop around 8 a.m. when his brakes abruptly failed, causing the vehicle to move over the curb and crash through the storefront.
Although there was considerable debris at the scene, building inspectors later determined there to be no structural damage. No one inside the building at the time of the crash, and no injuries were reported.
“I heard this big bang,” said Bobby Botto, who was working next door at Anthony’s Barber Shop when the incident occurred. “That’s all I heard. I didn’t think anything of it.”
Botto said he didn’t realize what happened until 20 minutes later, when the appearance of emergency personnel at the scene alerted him that something was wrong.
“I finally came out when I heard all the commotion,” he said.
The delivery truck was towed from the store’s parking lot at roughly 10 a.m. It is unclear when the bakery will reopen.
