Behind big days from co-captains Cade Buckley and Gavin Belt, the Bishop Fenwick golf team got back to its winning ways Thursday as the Crusaders took down St. Joseph’s Prep, 175-106, on the road at Newton Commonwealth Golf Course.
“The guys played well today and really worked together to get the win,” said Fenwick coach Jim McHugh.
Buckley led the way with 38 points in the victory, while Belt put up 30 points. Jason Romans had 26 points, while Brandon Bloom and Joey Marshall each had 25 points.
Fenwick (2-1) is back in action Saturday afternoon (3:30) when it hosts Matignon at The Meadow at Peabody Golf Course.

For the second day in a row, the Spartans couldn’t quite get over the top against Arlington Catholic despite some strong performances at the top of the lineup in a match at Tedesco Country Club.
“Our depth is a bit of an issue at the moment,” said St. Mary’s coach Jay Fiste. “We’re just not getting the contributions we need from the bottom half of the lineup right now, but that will come. We’ve got a lot of guys who are playing matches for the first time, so it’ll take some getting used to. We’ve played on a couple tough courses to start the year as well.”
The course didn’t play too tough for Spartans star junior Aidan Emmerich, who shot a score of 1-under 33 to earn 38 points. Luke Smith added 28 points, while Sean Mathers had 26 points. Peter Pagliuca had 22 points and Terance Moynihan put up 20 points in his first varsity match.
St. Mary’s (0-2) gets back on the course Monday afternoon (3) when it hosts Bishop Feehan back at Tedesco.
Masconomet 47, Swampscott 25
The Big Blue only earned one win on the day at The Golf Club at Turner Hill, with freshman Jason Bouffard taking his match 6-3.
“I can’t say enough about how impressed I was with Masconomet and the way their team played,” said Swampscott coach Jason Knowles. “They were really consistent out there and they had a great day.”
Swampscott (0-2) takes on Salem Tuesday afternoon (3:30) at Tedesco Country Club.
“We’re just looking forward to getting back out there, working hard and continuing to get better every day,” said Knowles.
