LYNN — Two people were taken to Massachusetts General Hospital following a rollover crash on the Lynnway Tuesday afternoon, according to the Lynn Fire Department.
Police and firefighters responded to the northbound side of the Lynnway, on the General Edwards Bridge near Walmart, following a 911 call for a rollover crash that resulted in someone being ejected from the vehicle, Lynn Fire Capt. Joseph Zukas said.
“When we got there, we found two patients that were both self-extricated, (meaning) they got out on their own,” said Zukas. “Because there was a rollover and there was the potential for serious injuries, both patients were taken to Mass General.”
The patients, a 20-year-old male driver from Boston and 50-year-old female passenger, are being treated for minor, non-life-threatening injuries, Zukas said.
Only one car was involved in the crash, which was reported as being more serious than it turned out to be when first responders arrived, Zukas said.
All northbound lanes were shut down and diverted off the Point of Pines exit to facilitate the removal and cleanup process.
At 2:30 p.m., one lane was reopened until the Department of Conservation and Recreation could respond with a sander/sweeper to clear fluid and debris, State Police said.
It’s not clear what caused the crash, which is under investigation by State Police.
