SAUGUS — Retired Saugus Police officer John “Nags” Naglieri died Monday following a battle with cancer, Chief Michael Ricciardelli announced Wednesday.
Naglieri, 61, was a reserve officer with the Saugus Police Department before he became a full-time officer in 1995, serving with the department for 30 years in various capacities before he retired from his full-time position in September 2018.
A press release from the Saugus Police Department stated he continued working as a special police officer until he received his cancer diagnosis six months ago.
“John was well-respected by his peers and (was) someone that you could always count on to back you up and do the right thing,” Chief Ricciardelli said. “He had a great attitude and never seemed to be in a bad mood.”
Naglieri received numerous awards, commendations, and accolades over the years for what the department described as “outstanding service.” He was also a longtime member of the Community Policing Unit and was active in the Police Athletic League.
He leaves behind his wife, Patti, and three adult children, Trevor, Kelli, and Shane.
“Off the job, John was known as a family man. His pride and joy was his family,” Ricciardelli continued. “We would like to thank John for his friendship, commitment, and service to the town of Saugus and it’s citizens over the past 30 years. Rest in peace.”
