The Salem golf team earned its first victory of the 2020 season Tuesday afternoon, notching a 38.5-35.5 win over Northeastern Conference foe Peabody at Olde Salem Greens.
Winners for the Witches included Ethan Doyle (6.5-2.5), Joe Parr (6-3), Brady Tremblay (5-4) and Jon Wasserman (6.5-2.5).
Salem (1-5) hosts Swampscott back at Olde Salem Greens Thursday afternoon (3:30).
Despite the loss Peabody got wins from Nathaniel Swanson (6-2.5) and Chris Fabbo (6-3). Sammy Olivieri and Matthew Ryder were also right in the mix, both tying their matchups 4.5-4.5.
The Tanners right back on the course, hosting Saugus Wednesday (3:30).

The Spartans split a tri-match on the road at Hillview Golf Course Tuesday.
Luke Smith and Sean Mathers led the way for St. Mary’s with 29 points each, while Peter Pagliuca had 27 points. Jackson Field contributed 23 points, while Terence Moynihan and Eric Bridges each had 20 points.
St. Mary’s (3-8) returns to action Thursday afternoon (3) with a road match against Central Catholic at Atkinson Country Club.
St. John’s Prep 217, Catholic Memorial 248
The Eagles remained unbeaten on the year after a win on the road at George Wright Golf Course.
Brandon Farrin led the way for St. John’s Prep with a score of 1-under 34, while Blake Buonopane shot even-par 35.
The Eagles (9-0) will compete in the Catholic Conference Championships Monday afternoon (12) at Worcester Country Club.
Swampscott 43, Marblehead 29
Swampscott got wins from Danny DiLisio (5-4), Lou Spellios (6-3), Nate Stern (5-4), Will Roddy (7-2), Jason Bouffard (5.5-3.5), Brendan Sheehan (6.5-2.5) and Connor Correnti (5-4).
Swampscott (7-2) takes on Danvers at Tedesco Country Club Wednesday (3:30).
For Marblehead, Matt Weed earned medalist honors with a score of 36 and won his match 6-3. Ben Weed shot a score of 37 in a loss.

BOYS SOCCER
Swampscott 4, Marblehead 0
The Big Blue celebrated their Senior Night with a bang, shutting out rival Swampscott at Blocksidge Field. Vincent Palmer had one goal and one assist, while Fernando Barranco, Jack Fredrickson and Andrew Fregger each scored one goal for Swampscott. Alex Greenfield, Nick Sirota and Chris Hollenbach each had one assist. Mason Bergeron (six saves) and Aidan Wyse (one save) combined for the shutout in net.
“We played a strong game all around,” said Swampscott coach Mike Amaral. “We were able to compete with Marblehead at every third of the field, creating chances on both left and right side. It was a great team effort all around on Senior Night.”
The two teams will meet for a rematch Friday (4) at Piper Field.

The Eagles kept on rolling with their fourth shutout in as many games on the season. Junior Joey Waterman got the job done in net with six saves while centerbacks David Armini and Griffin Tache both played strong games defensively.
A pair of juniors, James Gikas and Ryder Vigsnes each scored for St. John’s.
The Eagles are back in action Friday when they host St. John’s (Shrewsbury).

Pejae Parent scored both goals for the Spartans in Tuesday’s loss. St. Mary’s (1-4-1) travels to Bishop Stang next Tuesday (4).

Kyle Kwiatek, Anthony D’Itria and Jesse Moriello took the top three spots for the Spartans in the victory.

Senior captain George Nikolakopoulos was the winner for the Eagles, finishing with a time of 18:11. Sophomore Nathan Lopez (18:12) and junior Charlie Tuttle (18:13) were right behind, while sophomore Paul Lovett broke into the top echelon with a 4th place finish in 18:22.
St. John’s (2-0) will continue their Catholic Conference schedule Tuesday (4) with a home meet against BC High.
