Behind the first career varsity goal for eighth-grader Riley Maguire, the St. Mary’s girls soccer team earned a 1-1 draw with Arlington Catholic on the road Thursday afternoon.
Senior captains Susannah Cornell, Julia Nickolau and Eliza Brown all played well in the draw, as did junior Meghan Lovett.
“I thought we played really well and it was a great bounce-back after a tough Fenwick game the other day,” said St. Mary’s coach Jim Foley. “We play in a good league and we’re tested every night, so to come out and perform well after a tough loss was very good to see.”
St. Mary’s (3-4-2) returns to the field Saturday morning (9) against St. Joseph’s Prep for its Senior Day.
GOLF
St. Mary’s 262, Central Catholic 280
The Spartans took home the win in a medal play match on the road at Atkinson Country Club.
Luke Smith led the way after shooting a score of 2-over 38, while Peter Pagliuca shot 3-over 39. Sean Mathers and Terence Moynihan each shot scores of 45, while Eric Bridges shot 47 and Andrew Luciano shot 48.
St. Mary’s (4-8) is back in action Monday (3) against Bishop Stang at Hillview Golf Course.
Marblehead 50, Peabody 22
The brotherly duo of Matt and Ben Weed led the way for Marblehead in the victory, each earning co-medalist honors after shooting scores of 36. Matt Weed won his match 8-1, while Ben Weed won his match 6-3.
Other winners for the Magicians were Charlie Grenier (6.5-2.5), Jack Sontz (6-3), Jacob Aizanman (6-3), Drake Wyman (7-2) and Abby Schwartz (6-3). Scott Campbell tied his match (4.5-4.5).
Marblehead (5-2) plays on the road at Saugus Monday (3:30) at Cedar Glen Golf Course.
After winning its first match of the season Wednesday the Peabody golf team fell short Thursday at Tedesco Country Club.
Jonathan Olivieri highlighted the day for the Tanners, tying his match 4.5-4.5.

FIELD HOCKEY
Bishop Fenwick 4, Austin Prep 0
Grace Morey continued her stellar season with three goals and one assist to pace the Crusaders’ offense, while Emily McPhail had one goal and one assist. Arianna Costello scored one goal, Kailey Silva played well defensively and goalie Cat Elias had four saves in net.
Fenwick (3-2-1) takes on Bishop Stang Saturday morning (11).
Peabody 0, Beverly 0
Peabody goalie Sydney Bragna made 14 saves in the scoreless tie Thursday. The Tanners are back in action Friday (4) on the road at Saugus.

The Big Blue (2-2-1) will take on Danvers Monday (4) at Blocksidge Field.
