LYNN — The city of Lynn plans to close its ballot drop box outside City Hall on the night of Halloween.
The box, located at the Johnson Street entrance, will be closed to “avoid any pranks or mischief,” said City Clerk and Elections Chief Janet Rowe.
The box will be reopened on Sunday at 8 a.m.
Mayor Thomas M. McGee’s office has issued a press release on how people can safely vote if they are quarantined with COVID-19.
According to state law, anyone who has tested positive for COVID-19 or who has come in close contact with someone who has tested positive, and therefore has been instructed by a medical health professional or public health official to self-quarantine, is still able to vote by “Emergency Ballot.”
The voter must send a note with their signature stating that they are unable to vote in person due to COVID-19 and designate a person to pick up their ballot. The voter’s designee will deliver the signed note to the election office.
Once the voter is verified, the designee will fill out and submit an emergency ballot application on the voter’s behalf. The designee will then hand deliver the ballot to the voter to fill out and then return the completed ballot either to the city’s Election Office located in room 203 of City Hall or the voter ballot box located outside of City Hall on Johnson Street until polls close on Election Day, Tuesday at 8 p.m.
