SAUGUS — Streets surrounding the Dunkin Donuts on Lincoln Avenue remain closed for electrical repairs following a single-car crash in Saugus Thursday night, Chief Michael Ricciardelli reports.
Saugus Police responded to the scene at approximately 7:15 p.m. for a report of a vehicle that had crashed into a utility pole at the Dunkin Donuts sign.
Upon arrival, officers found that a GMC pickup truck had crashed through a utility pole, snapping it at the base and causing wires to be down across Lincoln Avenue and Chestnut Street. The truck had then crashed into the Dunkin Donuts pylon sign.
The driver of the vehicle, a 19-year-old male from Billerica, was evaluated on scene but declined to be transported to a hospital.
Following an investigation, the man was issued a citation for speeding, negligent operation of a motor vehicle, and possession of liquor by a person under 21.
The vehicle was towed, and an electrical inspector and crews from National Grid, Comcast, and Verizon were dispatched. The area of Lincoln Avenue and Chestnut Street remained closed Friday morning while crews worked to restore the scene.
