SWAMPSCOTT – Bertram House resident Abraham Babbitt celebrated his 100th birthday on Oct. 30 with friends, family, and the fire department.
Despite the limitations of social-distancing protocols, Babbitt was able to enjoy a series of visits with his family.
Representatives from the Swampscott Fire Department drove by his residence, presenting a celebratory banner with sirens blaring.
Babbitt was born and raised in Lynn, where he graduated from Classical High School. He went on to work at General Electric in various capacities, eventually becoming part of the management team in the personnel department. He also served as a Staff Sergeant in the 11th Air Force of the Army of the United States.
He married his wife, Frances, in 1945 and the pair celebrated their 75th wedding anniversary in March.
He has lived at Bertram House, a non-profit senior living community, since 2019.
