The Lynnfield boys soccer team closed out the season on a high note Monday evening, although it wasn’t as high a note as it wanted. After a 0-0 draw against Cape Ann League foe Rockport, Lynnfield earned a share of the CAL Kinney Division title. The Pioneers needed a win to clinch the CAL Kinney Division title outright, while the draw earned Rockport sole possession of the CAL Baker Division title.
Lynnfield shares the Kinney Division title with rivals Newburyport and North Reading.
“It was a bit disappointing just because if we had won we would’ve taken the division outright, but overall we’re still very happy to be taking home a share of the title,” said Lynnfield coach Brent Munroe. “It’s always better to win, but getting a share of the league title is incredibly satisfying, especially this year.
Lynnfield goalkeeper Dante Gesamondo played well in the draw, while center back Luke Martinho also played well.
“Rockport is a good team and they had a lot to play for as well, so it really was a great matchup to close out the season,” said Munroe.
Lynnfield finishes the 2020 season at 7-1-2. With no CAL tournament on the horizon, Munroe is happy that his team was able to make it to the finish line this year.
“This was such a weird year in every way possible, and things constantly felt a bit off all year,” said Munroe. “I’ve got to give credit to the guys, they really stepped things up down the stretch. We lost the second game of the year to North Reading and the guys didn’t lose another one after that. And above all, it was just really great to be able to play all of our games and end the season on our terms.”
BOYS SOCCER
Peabody 1, Beverly 0
The Tanners only needed one goal to pull off the win Monday, with Victor Maciel finding the back of the net to push Peabody ahead. Kyle Lobao, Ramon Falcao and Nick Sablone all played well for Peabody, while goalkeeper Joe Swanton made six saves in the shutout victory.

Despite missing four starters, the Crusaders were able to earn the draw against their Catholic Central League foe in their season finale.
Keiron Murray scored the lone goal for Fenwick, while Ryan Noci had the assist. Goalkeeper Liam Foley was stellar in the win, notching 11 saves — including three saves from inside 10 yards.
“Liam changed the game for us again,” said Fenwick coach Tony Enos.
Fenwick finishes the regular season at 9-1-4 and now awaits its seeding in the upcoming CCL Cup, which will begin Saturday.
St. John’s Prep 1, BC High 0
With the win the Eagles clinched their fifth-straight Catholic Conference title.
“It’s been such a crazy year with COVID and everything,” said coach David Crowell. “We talked about winning another (conference title) and how it wouldn’t really have an asterisk or anything because we’re playing the same schedule we would be anyway. We actually haven’t lost a Catholic Conference game since 2015. It’s a great accomplishment for our seniors and we’re really confident heading into Wednesday.”
Ryder Vigsnes scored the game winner for St. John’s while goalkeeper Joey Waterman notched the shutout. Senior center-midfielder Owen Siewert and defender Griffin Tache also played well.
The Eagles (7-0-2) are at Xaverian Wednesday (10).
