The Peabody girls soccer team had its offense clicking on all cylinders Tuesday evening, as the Tanners notched a 5-0 win over Northeastern Conference foe Gloucester at Coley Lee Field.
Peabody was led by the play of junior Emily McDonough, who had two goals and one assist in the win. Hailey Baker, Chiara Campbell and Bridget O’Connell scored one goal each in the win, while Hailee Lomasney had two assists and Ava D’Ambrosio had one assist. Jordyn Collins, Maddy Scacchi, Logan Lomasney played well on the defensive end. Goalkeepers Emma Bloom and Madison Murphy combined for the shutout in net.
Despite getting off to a fast start, Peabody wasn’t able to score a goal until there were just over three minutes to play in the first quarter. McDonough got the play started by taking the ball down the right side before sending a perfect crossing pass into the box to Baker, who redirected it into the net to make it 1-0 Tanners.
McDonough then went on to score two goals in the second quarter — one assisted by Bettencourt and the other assisted by D’Ambrosio — to push the lead to 3-0 Peabody at halftime.
In the second half, Campbell and O’Connell were able to score and stretch the lead out for an easy victory.
